ABOUT
ABOUT
Threads Around the Table was a participatory food and storytelling event presented by ESEA Creatives for East and Southeast Asian Heritage Month 2026. This event is supported by the besea.n Peiwen Legacy Fund. Co-facilitated by Lok Pui Lo, Xuan Li and Emily Ya Hsuan Fu, the evening brought together food traditions from Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. Participants explored noodles as a shared cultural thread through demonstrations, conversation, hands-on dough-making and a meal together. Held in Edinburgh on 21 September 2026, the event welcomed ESEA communities and the wider public, inviting people to share their own experiences of food, heritage and belonging.

PURPOSE
PURPOSE
The event explored how food can create a starting point for connection. Making noodles together offered a practical, informal way for people to exchange stories, discover different traditions and reflect on how cultural heritage evolves across generations and places. Rather than simply presenting traditions to an audience, we invited participants to contribute their own memories and learn through making, sharing and conversation.

Participants made noodle dough to take home and enjoyed prepared noodle dishes together during the event. Follow-up recipes and instructions encouraged them to continue experimenting in their own kitchens, extending the experience beyond the workshop.
